Your Path From Military Bases to College Athletics Starts Here
Military-connected athletes living overseas face a unique challenge — fewer showcases, limited college exposure, and recruiting systems built for players in the U.S. The United Sports Abroad Recruiting Program was created to close that gap.
This program connects U.S. military athletes around the world with experienced recruiting mentors who understand both the overseas experience and the college athletics landscape. Each athlete gets personalized support — from building a verified recruiting profile and highlight film to growing social media presence and developing a college fit list. Our team works directly with college coaches to help get your name and film in front of the right programs.
Our mission is simple: give every military athlete overseas a fair shot at playing at the next level by providing the tools, connections, and guidance you would have stateside — no matter where you’re stationed.
How it works
-
Athletes (with parent help) complete our secure recruiting form with key details — sports stats, highlight film, academic info, and military base location. This creates your official recruiting profile inside United Sports Abroad, designed specifically for overseas military athletes.
-
Once your profile and membership are active, you’ll be matched with one of our recruiting mentors — experienced athletes and coaches who understand the military journey. They’ll schedule meetings with you and your family to build a personalized recruiting plan, guide you on film and social media, and identify the best-fit schools and programs.
-
Your recruiting coach goes to work — refining your highlight film, helping you grow your digital presence, and actively sharing your profile with verified college coaches. We use our connections and network to put your information in front of the right programs while you continue to train and compete.
Recruiters/Mentors
Shaylee Ungos — Volleyball Mentor & Recruiting Coordinator
Shaylee Ungos grew up as a U.S. military kid in Korea, discovering her passion for volleyball but struggling to get noticed by college programs overseas. Determined to create opportunities, she found ways to compete in the U.S. with Pasadena City College in California and earned a scholarship to play at Menlo College.
Now Shaylee helps other military-connected athletes navigate the same challenges she faced. She mentors players and families, builds recruiting plans, guides social media and highlight film, and connects athletes directly with college coaches. Her mission is to make sure no overseas military athlete is overlooked.
Skyler Klimek — Football Mentor & Recruiting Coordinator
Skyler Klimek grew up as a proud DoDEA student-athlete, playing quarterback at Kubasaki High School in Okinawa, Japan. After graduating, he continued his football career at Pacific University and Monterey Peninsula College, where he developed a deep understanding of the game and the recruiting process.
Having lived the same lifestyle as many of the athletes we serve, Skyler knows the challenges and opportunities that come with being a military kid overseas. His unique experience allows him to connect with our athletes on a personal level, providing guidance, mentorship, and direct recruiting support to help them reach the next level.
Now part of the United Sports Abroad team, Skyler uses his strong network of college coaches and programs across the U.S. to open real pathways for overseas athletes. His goal is to help every athlete gain exposure, build confidence, and take the next step in their football journey.
